Implementation of P4-Based Schedulers for Multipath Communication

Multipath communication is a well-developed technology that enhances effectiveness and resilience. Moreover, it can flexibly utilize network resources through load balancing among available paths. However, traditionally, deploying such functions on devices costly due to the required configuration changes complicated signaling mechanisms devices’ control planes. Programming Protocol-independent Packet Processors (P4) has recently emerged as programming language enables programmability data plane, with potential relieve issues in multipath communication. This work introduces implements three P4-based schedulers split traffic over several paths wireless networks. The first Random Splitting, which distributes randomly. second Weighted Round Robin, path scheduling based weights accordance capability. last Dynamic Robin (DWRR), improve bandwidth utilization by shifting following dynamic (i.e., when congestion occurs). We have extensively evaluated implementation of these Mininet-WiFi/P4 environment User Datagram Protocol (UDP) traffic. results show achieve designed mechanisms.
